What is the difference between composite veneers and porcelain veneers?
Composite veneers are done in-office, with hand-layered tooth-colored resin composites by Dr. Brooks Paine. Composite veneers are less expensive, but also less durable. They can be a good option for younger patients due to being minimally invasive.
Porcelain veneers at Carolina Complete Dentistry are custom-made shells crafted by a master ceramist our office works with. These typically last much longer than composite veneers because of the nature of the material and because of the precision bonding techniques used. Minimally invasive preparations are sometimes needed however we always try to preserve as much enamel as possible.

Are Dental Veneers Bad For Your Teeth?
Dental veneers are perfectly safe. Your teeth will require the same good oral hygiene as they did before veneers. It may be tempting once you have veneers to neglect your natural teeth. It’s understandable for something to be out of mind once it is out of sight. However, as long as you maintain good hygiene habits and receive regular checkups dental veneers are not bad for your teeth.

Are Veneers Permanent?
Dental veneers require the same care and hygiene as normal teeth. The lifespan of dental veneers can vary dramatically based on the precautions taken since veneers aren’t indestructible. Porcelain veneers can last from 10 to 12 years. Composite veneers can last between 4 to 8 years. However with good hygiene and proper care, this lifespan can be extended, sometimes significantly. Porcelain is glass and can shatter with excessive pressure so being aware of its limits is important. Those who grind their teeth should strongly consider a night guard to protect their veneers as well.
